100th Year of Giro’d Italia
Tom Dumoulin became the first Dutch to complete the 100th year of the Giro d’Italia this year, reaching the lead of the general class with his performance against the individual on the last day. Tom Dumoulin was the name that reached the happy ending in Giro d’Italia, organized this year in the 100th. Team Sunweb’s Dutch cyclist topped the overall rankings with his successful performance on the last day, against the individual time. The opening ceremony was completed on the 5th May, the 100th Italy Cycling Tour in Alghero, Italy, with the 29.3 km 21st stage between Monza and Milan.
Dumoulin, as well as his career winning the first major tour championship, was the first Dutchman to win the Giro. At the end of the stage, Dumoulin’s Quintana dropped 31 seconds in the general classification, finishing second in Giro, while Nibali finished 40 seconds behind.
